Pepper is online again.

When I got home last night I realized my computer was online and dialed in. I figured that maybe I'd forgotten to set it to "Stand By" in the morning since I was so tired, and didn't think any more of it.

This morning I was awakened by the sound of my computer dialing in and logging on. I looked up and Pepper was sitting on my keyboard, nibbling idly on my receipts. I'm not sure exactly how she got up there, but she I went to grab her she fled via the top of the file cart.

I put the keyboard on top of the monitor, so she couldn't do it again. Or so I thought.

Now my home phone is busy again. Sigh.

So if you send me an e-mail today, my home computer may download it and I may not see it until I get home tonight.

Once again I am outsmarted by a 6lb prey animal.

About 12 years ago, when my cat Lily was young and spry, and I still had the tri-color from hell, Ti, they would occasionally re-record the answering machine message. How they managed to climb on TOP of the tower on the desk, fight ON the answering machine AND record it, I never did figure out.

How is it dialing in? Does it do it automatically when turned on, or is Pepper actually tapping out your name and password with her little paws?

I have it set to dial-in when it's requested to by a program. I set the system to stand-by when I leave. Hitting a key takes it off standby, and I probably left my mail program or my IM client open, so they told it to dial in.

I'll be changing that setting when I get home.....

This is why I make sure that the door to the room where I keep my computer is securely closed and evicted of cats before I leave for the day.

Those prey animals are tricky- they have to be to survive out there when EVERYONE wants to eat them. Let me just tell you- I have never been so grateful that we decided to kennel train the puppy, because she finds the WEIRDEST stuff to chew on/play with!
