It will be available as a podcast at some point. I went up second, and started everyone singing a short section from "Rabbit Of Seville", then I started rambling and weeping. I used the readings that [livejournal.com profile] chriswife and [livejournal.com profile] rhiannonhero sent to compose myself a bit, and then went back to the table and a pile of tissues. After I had a chance to settle and hear some more stories, I remembered a couple of other funny ones and I got back up again to tell them.

Family, friends and coworkers all told stories. Even so, we were pretty much done with the "memorial part" with lots of time to spare, so we all stayed to just talk with friends - about Janet, about people who couldn't make it, and about what people have been doing in the years since we've all seen each other. A pretty common theme of the evening seemed to be "Janet really brought people together, and I'm going to make more of an effort to stay connected now". I hope it works. I'm going to do some work on the CekebrateJanet yahoogroup this week and set up a members-only section for contact info, so people can keep in touch. Gonna have to buy a LOT more holiday cards this year!

It was good, but I had a lot of trouble sleeping afterwards. I'm sure that I did a lot of repressing emotions this summer, just to keep going. Last night obviously stirred that up a lot, but in a good way. Kind of like pulling the bandaid, poking at things, and cleaning the wound so it can heal. I elected to stay home and be quiet today, rather than run errands or go see the Dark Morris. I needed to just take time to be still and let things settle into a new configuration. Read a little, napped a little, remembered a little. I feel better for it.

I have been making plans to get a small tattoo in her memory, so that she would be with me always. However, Jake gave me one of the rings she used to always wear. So now maybe I don't need the tattoo. Since the idea was to always have something of her with me, this may suit just as well.

I could not help but notice, that my story was the notable exception to the "bringing people together" theme. Then again, we all know that Connie and Mead are now happily divorced from each other and married happily married to others.

I for one never felt closer to Janet than when she was "snarking the straights" :)

I'm so sorry I couldn't make it, but I was there in spirit!

Would you like to have one of her stuffed animals or something as a keepsake? We still have some
