I'm active in a lot of online rabbit communities. There are so many because the info that pet stores give on rabbits is inadequate or just plain wrong, so confused bunny-parents often turn to the internet for help.
I've learned that in general, dedicated rabbit people tend to be a really great bunch. They are insightful, curious, and pretty smart. Rabbits take a little longer to "figure out" than cats or dogs, but the people do are a great bunch.
As a result, these people are generally individualists - artists, painters, hobby creative types, etc. We get just as many elderly british ladies as younglings with piercings and interesting hair colors.
Members of any "subculture" are often more accepting of people who look or act outside societal "norms" - because they've been there.
How does this all interact? I just spent several minutes giggling after I saw the name of one of the main contributors to the Best Friends animal rescue org in Nevada...
