I made a reservation online for a cab to get me to mixing tonight, around lunchtime.

I got a confirmation number and everything

THE RESULTS
See Wendy tapping foot impatiently and 15 minutes after the cab was supposed to arrive see her call the cab company.

Hear the cab company tell her that her reservation was canceled.

Hear Wendy explain that no one called me that despite all the phone numbers provided with the reservation.

Cover your ears as Wendy is told that there are no cans in her area and that there mkght be one in about 45 minutes. Then stuff a pillow over your head as Wendy has a few rather cnhoice words for the manager on duty.

And then don't try to reserve a Chicago Carriage Cab online Ever!

I have no way to get to the studio tonight that does not involve a mile-long walk from the train and about 45 minutes (because the wind chills are well below freezing at the moment). There is a bus 5 blocks to the north but you have to go around a college campus.

John will get started without me and Fred will turn up around 8.

Next Wednesday
a) hopefully will be warmer
b) if not, I will be able to get the zipper on my down coat (which broke this morning) repaired
c) and I will just go there directly from work so that I have time to walk up from Peterson

I have never had any cab company in the Chicago area deliver a cab in a timely fashion even having phoned first, much less with an online reservation (they always cancel them). The last time I had to travel I had to call for a THIRD cab as the first two didn't bother to show. Never mind that I live five minutes from O'Hare and it's basically a quick trip for any enterprising hack. (In rail games I would be a piece of opportunistic freight.)

If you're not calling from a business address, for some reason, they tend to ignore the fact that you exist.

I've actually successfully gotten cabs with online reservations for my last two trips (303 Taxi). One of them was early, and the other was well within the +- 15 minutes they promised. Obviously, the key is to not actually be in Chicago.

And your mood icon was ONLY irritated? I would have expected something like nuclear, and the little Goth girl with flaming sword and her hair hissing and moving around like snakes and purple smoke and ... and.... and.... stuffs.
