the state of the Wendy

I had one phone interview at lunch (a realtors association), and another missed call but it turns out they want to interview me in person tomorrow night after work. I have a phone call with one place I've been e-mailing back and forth with (A senior caregiver service) scheduled for 5:30 and she knows I'll be on my bus. I had a testing session/interview on Tuesday afer work (Medical education association)

I can has nap?

I've finished watching season 1 of the new Doctor Who. I missed the whole Whovian phenomenon in college because I was more into Blakes 7 at the time (much snarkier). I was vaguely familiar with it as part of the SF Convention Cultural Heritage. I've seen The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances in passing, and [livejournal.com profile] ashtalet brought The Christmas Invasion for my GeekMas party and I said "you know this isn't half bad...." Yeah - I know - I'm always the last girl to the party. But I'm on board now. Pass my my Torchwood.....and a bib plz. (and perhaps a clean pair of knickers as well- rrow)

My State tax refund (of $22) posted to my account today. Neener neener.

I got another box of sticks in the mail today! (see, [livejournal.com profile] capi posted last month that she had taken down an old apple tree in her yard. I posted NO WAIT DON'T THROW THE BITS OUT!!!!" as Pepper LOVES her some applewood nibblies. We got the first box yesterday and the second today. I actually had trouble getting to sleep last night over the happy munching noises coming from the living room, and all the bark is gone off one side of the branch I gave her last night! Since she was so generous, I hope to be able to pass some of the yummies on to [livejournal.com profile] the_phookabunny as well.

As you may know I've started the process of getting a condo. I've been monitoring the market, and what's available at what prices in my target areas. I've seen a lot of really ugly carpets and bathrooms, but this is a real winner....a PINK oven?

And mmmm - pink tile and a salmon tub? (ow ow ow ow)

I can't seem to find offhand the one bathroom with speckled grey/white tile with dark aquamarine tile borders and tub. (We have VERY hard water in this town - that would very quickly look NASTY). Pleh.

Did you ever see our condo in Skokie? The master bath? Covered in shiny silver wallpaper with splotches of white and black. It certainly woke us up in the morning!

ow ow...

I'm mainly looking for "not too nasty" and "large enough to turn around in" in the bathroom dept. My big things are price and hardwood floors because of my allergies. I have about another month worth of paperwork assembly before I can really start mortgage-shopping, and I may do another round of classes to qualify for various city low-income and/or 1st time homebuyer programs.

Just in time for the real estate transaction tax hike!

[identity profile] ashtalet.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I was concerned about Evanston's version of same, but it got voted down (presumably to be replaced by an increase in property taxes, so it's not like it helps any).

I know. *sadface*

But still, with things so slow in the market, prices are great so I'll eat the extra couple hundred at closing if I have to.

You know, that bathroom looks like one I had in an apartment about ten years ago...

On the other hand, I think the pink oven is one of those breast cancer awareness things, hm?

[identity profile] wendyzski.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
still.......ick.

With the rest of the decor being white cabinets and appliances, it looks like the kitchen is getting a zit.

Add a peach toilet and pink sink and you would have my bathroom in the Lincolnwood house. Oh, and the waist-height-up silver-foil printed wall paper that was also on the ceiling. Smac said it was like taking a shit inside a birthday present.

BWAAAAAAH!!!!

[identity profile] ladyniniane.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I grew up with that bathroom - ours had black accent tiles scattered randomly among the pink as well. And I will lay you long odds that the sink and toilet pictured are not the originals; imagine the same salmon color for all fixtures, and the non-tiled portions of the wall painted in a slightly lighter shade.

My dad used to say it was his punishment for raising all girls. As it was the only bathroom in the house, he had to view it every day. (This, BTW, was the infamous '21 people and one bathroom' house of KCRF d'Mongrel Horde days.)

ok the bathroom is.. a bit disturbing even for me... the tile I could maybe stand.. or the tub but both.. not so much (plus they so don't match...) but a black tub might look sharp in there with a black toilet and sink

but the kitchen... you know I drooled over that oven.. yes I admit it I am a pink nut.. it just needs a floor with bits of pink in it... and then I could add cobalt blue stuff and have the pink and cobalt kitchen sigh......

yeah I am weird.. you should know this by now lol!!

{{{hugs}}} love you, miss you

Wow. I've looked at a number of places, some with ... interesting decor, but I've yet to see anything like that!

[identity profile] stealthbunny.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You can always give a bathroom a facelift with Bathfitters. They can fit a fiberglass tub (or tub/shower) (any color) right over an existing one, so an ugly bath isn't a lost cause or a dread situation of a complete renovation.

I bought a house in July- that was exciting, so good luck! Also, YAY DOCTOR WHO!
