It was sometime last December and I made an online reservation for a cab. Had a confirmation number and everything, and then the cab never showed. The next day I called and after being fobbed off to at least 3 people they said that my reservation "had been canceled".

Now, Chicago law says that cabs can't refuse pickups because of where they are (and it's not that my neighborhood is unsafe, just that it's not prime downtown area - so they are less likely to pick up a fare right afterwards) even though it happens all the time. I tried calling for a reservation that morning and 3 companies said that they had "no drivers available" for that location and time.

So I filed a complaint online with the city, and when they sent me a detail form I also filled THAT out (and sentcopies of the printouts), as well as the second letter asking if I would come to court if needed (hell yes!).

I'm sure that the cab companies get away with this kind of crap all the time because people don't bother or don't know how to complain. But I'm a vindictive bitch and I missed a very important session because of these yahoos, so I'm pretty pleased that they got the smackdown on this one.

There is always a certain gleeful pleasure in getting people who think they can get away with whatever they want in trouble.

Good job!
