In the grand tradition of Illinois politics

Illinois Governor arrested

In addition to the ongoing pay-for-play FBI investigation, there is also word that he was trying to "sell" Obama's old senate seat.

Are we really surprised? One of the quotes from the governor was something along the lines of, "I'm gonna give someone a senate seat as a Christmas present."

And FitzGerald gave him a wonderful birthday present.

Sounds like he would fit right in with TN senator John Ford. A real charming character. In addition to numerous abuses of power, accepting of bribes, and lots of unsavory behavior. His main bit was being convicted in a FBI sting operation for major bribery (they called it Tennessee Waltz). He is currently serving time, which he tried to get delayed because apparently he had to take care of his numerous kids because Baby Mamma is also in jail. Even though he wasn't actually doing anything, not living there. At one point, he also tried to get out of paying child support because he was supposedly maintaining residence in 3 households of his kids.

Gotta love abuses of political power. Sigh.

6 out of 10 of the last Illinois governors have been arrested or indicted on corruption charges either while in office or not too long afterward.

Hmmm, I left Illinois in 2000. Since then, every Illinois governor has been arrested on bribery and corruption charges.

Obviously, I was the moral bastion for the state. 8-P

For the record, since 1950, Ilinois has had 10 governors, 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats. Three of the Democrats have been arrested or indicted (Walker, Kerner & Blago) as have three of the Republicans (Stratton, Ryan & Ogilvie) either during or after leaving office. Stratton was acquitted.

It's a legacy.

It's a Tradition!
