Date: 2009-01-13 05:42 am (UTC)768 sq ft might be right because of rounding in the diagram to the nearest six inches.
Declaring a room, a home office might not be worth the extra effort.
Re: Divide and Measure
Date: 2009-01-13 07:18 pm (UTC)Divided the drawing into four section, three rectangles and one triangle. Living room 12*11.5 = 138 sq ft, Bath/Kitchen 8*13 = 104 sq ft, the Middle with corridor (33-11.5+13)*(18-8) = 345 not 355 sq ft and the Bedroom sliver (33-11.5+13)*(12-10+6.5)/2 ~ 147 not 151 ft. Total 734 not 748 sq ft.

Date: 2009-01-13 08:31 am (UTC)You can claim tax reductions for using a bedroom as an office? I can't claim square yardage for the sewing space as it's an integral part of the house, and not wholly dedicated to work. However, if I could work it out, I'd be allowed something for heat, light, and cleaning! As I never get close to the basic allowance anyway, it's academic.

Date: 2009-01-14 08:55 pm (UTC)1. Triangle on the left. Base of the triangle is 6.5 ft. Length of the triangle is 34.5 (33+13-11.5) feet.
Exact area of the triangle is 112.125 sq. ft.
2. Big rectangle in the middle - 12' wide all the way down for (33 + 13) feet.
Exact area of big triangle is 552 sq. ft.
3. Small rectangle on the right - (18-12) feet wide for 13 feet.
Exact area of the small rectangle is 78 sq. ft.
Total area is 112.125 + 552 + 78 or 742.125 sq. ft. about halfway between the 733 and 748 that was estimated. This is probably due to rounding in the measurements.
