What is the approximate square footage of this?

If my memory of math is correct it should be around 768 square feet total. But I'm not mathematically inclined in any way, I just like testing to see how much of my schooling I remember at any given moment.

I'm just not really good at maths and some of the people on my Flist are so I figured I'd ask for help. Thanks!

(I have to estimate square footage of the whole place and then the back bedroom to take a home office tax deduction)

Have you looked up your assessment? It might include the area of the place. Just a thought.

Divide and Measure

I got 748 sq feet. Divide the drawing into four section, three rectangles and one triangle. Living room 12*11.5 = 138 sq ft, Bath/Kitchen 8*13 = 104 sq ft, the Middle with corridor (33-11.5+13)*(18-8) = 355 sq ft and the Bedroom sliver (33-11.5+13)*(12-10+6.5)/2 ~ 151 ft. Total 748 sq ft.

768 sq ft might be right because of rounding in the diagram to the nearest six inches.

Declaring a room, a home office might not be worth the extra effort.

Paper math mistake.

Divided the drawing into four section, three rectangles and one triangle. Living room 12*11.5 = 138 sq ft, Bath/Kitchen 8*13 = 104 sq ft, the Middle with corridor (33-11.5+13)*(18-8) = 345 not 355 sq ft and the Bedroom sliver (33-11.5+13)*(12-10+6.5)/2 ~ 147 not 151 ft. Total 734 not 748 sq ft.

The "official" total appears to be 733.625. Good job!

Treat it as two rectangles and a triangle: Total square footage: (12x46')+ (8x13') + ((35.5x6.5)/2)= 771.375 square feet total.

Bedroom looks like it is about 12x10', am I correct?

The triangle doesn't have a height of 35.5 though, that's the hypotenuse so taking 33 + 13 - 11.5 would give you the height. (geometry was never my strong point, but I think that's correct)

Good point.

I come up with 734.125 Wildly less than everyone else, I know. I'm not great with math, but I'm good with technical illustrations, so there is a PDF showing how I got that number, posted here.

It was closer to what my brother and foolscap got which was 733.625.

Izz not fabric... Cannot do sumz!

You can claim tax reductions for using a bedroom as an office? I can't claim square yardage for the sewing space as it's an integral part of the house, and not wholly dedicated to work. However, if I could work it out, I'd be allowed something for heat, light, and cleaning! As I never get close to the basic allowance anyway, it's academic.

I can claim some of the expenses since it's a dedicated space for office, costume construction (for profit and for necessary work clothes) and rehearsal space. That's why I got a 2 bedroom.

According to my brother:
The correct answer is 733.625

100% certain.

Three sections here.
1. Triangle on the left. Base of the triangle is 6.5 ft. Length of the triangle is 34.5 (33+13-11.5) feet.
Exact area of the triangle is 112.125 sq. ft.
2. Big rectangle in the middle - 12' wide all the way down for (33 + 13) feet.
Exact area of big triangle is 552 sq. ft.
3. Small rectangle on the right - (18-12) feet wide for 13 feet.
Exact area of the small rectangle is 78 sq. ft.
Total area is 112.125 + 552 + 78 or 742.125 sq. ft. about halfway between the 733 and 748 that was estimated. This is probably due to rounding in the measurements.
