Just had a glass of slightly sweetened iced green tea with fresh mint from my "garden".

Madame Black Thumb here may have managed to kill the mint I planted. I'm jealous that you're able to harvest yours.

This is my first real attempt at this sort of thing. I got 3 different mints (apple-, spear- and pepper-) as little plants and potted them up in a nice wide bowl-shaped planter. They seem to be doing pretty well, and are busily doing battle with each other for supremacy. The apple-mint seems to be losing and is attempting a strategic retreat towards the railing boxes. I muddled some of each with sugar and then added water and strained it into the pitchers of sun tea. It was tasty, my kitchen smells nice, and Pepper got to eat the rinsed leaves - a win/win situation all around.

I'm generally having cautious success with the other plants. My lavender failed utterly so I replaced it with a lemon thyme that seems to be doing well. The third thing I got from that mail-order nursery is rosemary and while it's not dying it doesn't seem to be doing much of anything growth-wise. I don't think I'll order from them again. I also have dill, lemon balm and some salad greens that I got as plants from local places, and greens, beans and luffa from seeds. The beans in particular (a freebie from GreenFest) are sprouting up rather enthusiastically, and I plan to let them climb the deck railings. It is handy when I forget to shop to go out on the deck with a pair of scissors and cut Pepper her supper!

I planted rainbow carrot seeds in these little peat pods and then transplanted them to window boxes. Apparently a local squirrel though they were some kind of yummy so he dug a couple up but seems to have given up when he didn't find anything tasty. Something also bit off my parsley, and I had to go a round with insecticidal soap for some kind of beetle that got some of my lettice. The rest of things seem to be doing okay so I planted up another round of seeds for carrots and mixed salad greens over the weekend.
