Was up every few hours all night with muscle spasms and swinges in my leg and called off work. Also called the nurse from the work comp place and he told me to go to the clinic.

they xrayed my hip and found no damage, and told me I could go back to work - I said I was in too much pain. So that's another day without pay. Grrrr.

Then the nurse called back and asked why the PT had worked on my hip. I said "You sent me there - I assumed that they knew what they were doing". I asked about going to another clinic and he said I needed to talk to my adjuster about it. When I called he, she said that the PT said he never physically touched me during Monday's session. I told her that was a bald-faced lie, and asked for her e-mail so I could write up a report about what actually happened on Monday. Sent it off and CCd HR aout half an hour ago.

Someone from the work comp company will call to get me into someplace else for treatment.

So now I'm in pain, depressed, and ANGRY!

Hopefully today's pain is mostly overuse and will subside with rest. I'm too tired for any spasms to get a good start any time soon.

EDIT: I was so angry I probably wasn't clear.
On Monday, he sharply "readjusted" my hip.
Then I had pain.
He was authorized to treat me for knee pain, and now my hip hurts.
He may well have made things worse.
Now he's saying he never touched my hip

Basically, he's lying.

Wouldn't a PT who does not physically touch you at all not be doing his job?

That was kind of my thought. But I suspect he's covering his ass against any allegation that he caused damage. Given the fact that he was clearly not listening to me on Monday, it doesn't surprise me - just angers me.

Having had some time to lie down, eat something (I'd not eaten since 7Am) and taking the 550mg Naproxen, I am cautiously optimistic that I'll be mobile tomorrow.

I agree with salexa. There is no reason for him not to touch you. And there is no reason for him to lie about it. Does this have to do with his reimbursement? Are there different rates whether he is supervising exercises or adjusting your position while doing the exercises? Do you have a treatment plan? Written?

And what the GW (I like that a lot better than F) is up with an Xray to determine if your muscles hurt??? That won't work.

I'm sorry that you are in pain, and that no one seems to be able to use their brains to help you.

From your edit, he was not following the treatment plan and that is the crux of the problem. That's where the written treatment plan comes in handy. He could have made the case for modifying the treatment plan, saying that the injury had caused a compensating transfer of movement or pain to the hip and requiring treatment at that point. But if he made that case at all, he only did it verbally and blamed pre-existing gait problems for it.

Sigh. There is a procedure and he ignored it.

Check your leg and hip. If he 'adjusted' as sharply as you describe, he may have left some bruising. Try to get photo documentation of that. If he did make matters worse, than it can't hurt to have some proof of what he did.

I know you do back ups of LJ, so, doing a current one to document your discussion of the problems here would also be good. You state pretty clearly what he did, well before you knew he would CYA on this.

Let me know if you need help. I'm kinda at home all day.

I did put in my report "I blogged about it that day and the entries are time-stamped if you need them", but the backup is a good idea - thanks.

I think he did something he wasn't authorized to do - whether it's a good or bad thing in the long run remains to be seen. In the short-term 'm in more pain and missing work. The fact that he's lying about it worries me, which is why I right away when the insurance lady told me this, I said "what's your e-mail address, because I apparently need to write up what REALLY happened".

Someone "unknown" just called my cell but I couldn't get to the phone before it stopped ringing- if it was the scheduling people they didn't leave a message and I can't call back an "unknown number".

I'm hoping that resting and some sleep plus new pain meds will make me more mobile tomorrow. If not, I'll figure things out at that point.

OMG!

I read this and had immediate homicidal thoughts towards your PT. What? Was he trying to INDUCE sciatica?! O_o

This sort of thing was the reason I stopped going to my chiropractor. She was a nice lady...and meant well...but was convinced I was "too young" at 37 to have any disc issues so never suggested I get an MRI. She was "adjusting" my back...and it never felt better...I got my ROM back...but the pain was worse.

If he billed your insurance for "manual therapy" that day...he can only code it if he DID touch you. FYI. One is an outright lie...the other is insurance fraud.

I have been following your PT posts and wow, it sounds like something seriously fishy is going on with that guy. I agree with fuzzyscribble - fraud or lying, one of the two.

I hope that you're feeling better and this issue gets sorted out.
