We are having an event next month, for which people are donating items for auction.

Our local state rep offered a certificate which allows the buyer to be a government page for a day.

The thank-you letter said "Thanks you for your donation of a "Page for a day".

::mental image of a little boy in medieval uniform following me around all day::

I think I'll ask her to rephrase that one....

**snicker** It could always be worse; he could be 'paging' you as well.

I can just see it now.

::little boy in medieval uniform following Wendy-Lady around all day, saying,::

"Paging Lady Wendy; paging Lady Wendy!" and then, Wendy, "psst, kid, stop it - go 'way!" as she walks a little faster.

::page picks up the pace to keep just four steps behind her and now speaking up a bit::

"Paging Lady Wendy, Lady Wendy! Message for Lady Wendy!"

At which point Wendy's giggle takes control, so she starts trotting and trying to hush the insistent pest, "look, kid, will ya just stop and go'way?"

::page's eyes perk with the challenge as he starts trotting a little faster, his little legs pumping with exertion::

"Paging Lady Wendy, Lady Wendy! Anyone see Lady Wendy (puff, puff) as I have an urgent message for Lady Wendy!"

People stop and stare; halted mid-stride from their busy pace to see the absurd miniature parade. A policeman walking nearby hesitates, trying to determine if this is a public disturbance or just performance art. A journalism student looking desperately for a subject for that paper due tomorrow pauses, every brain cell focussed upon a new, wonderful breaking story.

Wendy dives into the ladies room, and the lad, intent upon fulfilling his mission, ignores the label on the door and follows her inside.....

Stay tuned for our next episode of "No Page Goes Unturned!"

Taste of Elegance - a big-ticket ($85) dinner with food by dozens of the North Shore's snootiest restaurants. Raffle and silent auction - items range from the "BE a page for a day" to yoga lessons, art glass, and gift certificates for everything from tooth-whitening to jewelry. All proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.

It's actually in Mid-March, in Northbrook. For more info, wendy.zdrodowski@cancer.org

I work for the American Cancer Society as my "day job". I'm the receptionist/admin at the Evanston office.
