The Marcon report will have to wait - mostly because I'm still assembling photos of the new outfits.
I have to give major props to Megabus. It's not exactly glamorous - I mean, it's a bus. But the seats are relatively comfy, the drivers are nice, the vehicles don't smell like the old Greyhound busses did. and each seat has free power outlet and wifi. On the way there I slept in a pair of seats by the washroom - they recline farther than the others but people brush past you a LOT and I think that is where they take the seats out if there is a wheelchair rider, so they weren't fastened down all that well. On the way back, I got there early and since there weren't many travelers on Sunday of a holiday weekend I got the entire upstairs back row to myself, where I stretched out and slept most of the way home.
I got the Con Crud, which in this case as is often true turned into a wicked secondary lung infection. I don't remember most of Thursday (other than texting in sick) and then Friday morning I stayed home again and called the doc. I've got a Z-pack and a course of prednisone which I am alternately cursing and blessing. I really like breathing, but I also like sleeping and this dose kept me awake until after 5AM when I had to be up at 9:30 for the exterminator. I am improving, slowly, and should be somewhat functional by Monday. And my doctor gave me a note.
I finished DEADLINE. It didn't punch me in the gut the way FEED did, but I'm not sure if that was because I don't identify as much with Shaun as the narrator, being a) not male and b) not insane. or from my somewhat fever-addled state. I'm working my way back through it, but I do congratulate myself on extrapolating early hints so as to not be surprised by the last page. Haven;t decided how I feel about it, but wasn't totally surprised. As for the other Big Reveal (poor Becks), I was mostly "OK, not the healthiest choice, but no one in this entire world can really be considered emotionally healthy by present-day standards, so I guess it's just one more fucked-up response to a really fucked-up world."
Streamed the first 15 minutes of this week's Doctor Who on BBCOne before it crapped out on me. I'm downloading it now, but I can say that I covet River's jaunty little hat. Also Rory is utterly adorkable.
Oh, don't remember if I posted in the frantic countdown to Marcon, but the same folks that did that wonderful British TV version of Hogfather? They just did a similar two-part miniseries of Going Postal, and it's quite fun. Casting is pretty spot-on, and while the design of the golems wasn't quite what I thought the rest certainly fit well enough.
Did a bit more gardening today - mostly potting up things into bigger more permanent pots. I think the lemongrass has given up the ghost so I'll put in for my refund this week. But I have the usual mint going like gangbusters, and I divided the catnip in 3 today. I think I overwatered the basil, but the rosemary is going like gangbusters. I have two self-watering containers of rainbow carrots going now - about a week and a half apart, and planted three more smaller containers today. I'm on my second growth from the "starter plants" I got in mid-may, and have some seedlings coming up in what should be good order to replace them - the usual mixed salad greens and lettuces. A few more weeks and then I'll plant up a shallow rubbermaid tub or two of cut-and-come-again greens and that should be mostly it for the season. Which is good because dirt is HEAVY!
I don't know if I will be healthy enough to make the Printers Row Lit Fest tomorrow. I'd like to, but reserve judgement.
