*nods* We'll be fine, luv. Promise me you will get up early on the 4th and we can hit the road early, and we'll just *go*!! If i am crashed, then you can sleep in and come here, and we'll just *be*! *L* I think we can fill the time, either way, eh? And if the pets present a problem, we'll go to the zoo or hang out somewhere better for you, k?

It will be fine. By Oct, room rez won't even be needed for the night - we can choose as we go. Deal?

((( hug ))) No panicing! It really will be ok!! We are gonna have SO much fun just being *together*!!! *squeeeeeeeeeee!!!!*

If you insist on working out details in advance, then send me your phone number, k? We'll talk it over! *mwah*

The only details I really needed to work out were
1) How much to save for motel-ishness. I AM unemployed, ya know, and am trying to budget this trip pretty closely.
2) What time I shoule expect to bring the car back in Palo Alto, and what tiome I tell RJ I'm showing up.

I figgered early on the 4th was not a problem, you silly morning-person. Luckily, I have a program on my Palm that tells me where the nearest coffee shop to Dave's place is!

Just out of curiosity, which does it show? I'm thinking it should either be the Brookfields' on Foothill or perhaps one of the mom & pop places on Washington or Cirby.

what's your nearest instersection?

From: [identity profile] that-david.livejournal.com
That would be Woodlake and Blue Ravine Rd. Only thing is that some of the mapping/navigation software is not updated frequently enough to adequately account for all of the new developments in the Roseville area.

Still, shouldn't be a problem to find something nearby. Just a matter of what your in the mood for. ^_~

Woodlake Dr? Woodlake Hills Dr? Woodlake Ln? (All of which are in Sacramento according to this....

And it'sll be coffee. Girly-coffee by preference.

Woodlake Rd., I believe. Check Roseville, if possible, not Sac.

Vindigo is Sac only.

BTW - do you havd a washer/dryer, or is there one nearby? Trying to find ways to avoid taking 8 days worth of clean clothes, plus the gear for the wedding - it's a hefty sum.

Have washer and dryer. Unexpected I know for a household of bachelors. Shouldn't be a problem to run any needed loads.

*puts on her most stern mommy-face*

In this particular case, you need save *nothing* for your room.

Period.

*holding up her hand* Nope, not open for discussion.

We've all been there, darling. Just enjoy. Please? You're coming to *my* state, and i wanna splurge a bit on you. Food will also be handled. Hey, you might have some spare money for a redwood souvenier this way! *grin*

When i visit YOUR place, you can splurge on me back, deal?

I don't drive to the Bay Area often at all, but we generally figure 2 hours to almost anywhere there - David? Input? - If we leave you with three, you should be fine. ((Thinking s'more on this: i've NO idea the traffic patterns there, so rush hour - which lasts many hours *here* - could mess up the timing. Input, David?)) We will be doing a LOT of driving these two days - it's five hours from here to the redwoods, and after that, you can continue driving thru them (another two hours or so brings you to Eureka, which is plenty far enuf north) or you can get out somewhere and stroll..... We'll likely do both.

So you're dropping the rental car off on the 5th? Hmmmm... perhaps you chould arrange to have it overnight til the 6th? Our local car rental place closes at 6:30 or so, which means you can't return a car later than that (how smart is that?? These sort of places really should have round-the-clock service...). With all the driving *back* from the redwoods, plus the few hours back to Palo Alto, i can't imagine making a 6:30 deadline....

I suppose.... *ponders s'more* ...we could do *all* our redwoods' viewing on the 4th, then drive back south some to a hotel.... so we'd be closer to here when we get up in the morning, eh? That would help with the hours on Tuesday. What say you?

We can phone RJ on Tuesday (more than once, if needed!) to confirm your times, if that would work. If we make this too tight, we'll muffle some of our enjoyment. (I tend to get over-anal about deadlines.... so i'm trying to keep that factor low.)

All in all, if we *do* get an early start Monday, we'll be fine for getting it all in. *grin*

Oh. Having rented a car not long ago, i learned something interesting! The insurance they encourage you to get, that adds $13.00 or whatever to your daily price? My own car insurance covered a rental (i called my insurance guy and asked him) so i did not need that extra money on there. Saved a bundle, considering how much we needed that car. It's worth checking into....

Two to three hours will typically reach anywhere in the Bay area from Sacramento and do so easily. Mid-day traffic westbound from Sac to Bay area should not be an issue.

Good thought on the rental car insurance, but since Wendy doesn't have a car of her own (last I recall, I could be wrong) I don't think she'll have the regular insurance to cover it.

Your recall is still good - she still has no car of her own, and therefore no car insurance of her own.

::scuffs toe:: okee.

Well, I have the car set to return at 7, but can make it later - if it's later, you just leave the car, put the keys in a little lockbox, and fill out the time on it.

I'll change it to 9 PM then.

Define "Early"

Date: 2004-09-14 09:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] that-david.livejournal.com
What's early to you? I'm usually up and out by 0530 in order to be at work by 0630, but if that's too early Wendy and I can have breakfast prior to her heading in your direction. Speaking of which, in general terms, where in the Sac area are you? I know most of Sac -- having driven all over as part of past jobs for a three year period -- and can give Wendy surface and highway directions that take into account time of day and direction.

OOOOOOooooo! Someone who knows *early*!! *bounce bounce*

*ponder ponder* For the sake of my family, you two should probably breakfast and *then* head on over. Me, i'll be up buzzing merrily around thinking last-minute thoughts, y'know? *grin*

I am easy to find, but depending on where *you* are, David, traffic can be knarly in those morning hours. I'm in the north-western part of town, just off I-80 heading towards Reno (the Biz 80 and I-80 have just reunited one exit before me, so that's no issue) very near Elkhorn/Greenback on the Elkhorn side.

BTW, pleased-ta-meetcha!! *grin*

I'm up in the newer developments in Roseville. Sounds to me like you're in the North Highlands neck of the woods (I have a longtime friend in the developments near the SMUD facility at Don Julio/Elkhorn).

I should be able to direct her to you without even touching I-80. ^_~

And it's very nice to meet you too! ^_~

Yeah, i'm next-door to North Highlands - in the Foothill Farms part closer to the frwy. The SMUD thing is on the other side of the tracks from us. *L*

Imagine that!!!

Exactly! Just a matter of which street to take turning off of Roseville Rd. (I use Roseville Rd. North from Madison on my way home every day).

Did that once before...the '97 Westercon in downtown Seattle (marvelous seafood at the 6th St. Fish Market). Took about 12 hours Sac to Seattle, accounting for pit stops to load/unload road munchies.
