Hammond Boy licks light pole - gets stuck
Jan 15, 8:44 AM EST

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) -- In a scene straight out of the movie "A Christmas Story," a 10-year-old Hammond boy got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole.

Police say the unidentified fourth-grader was able to tell them that a friend dared him to lick the pole Wednesday night. Temperatures in Hammond were around 10 degrees at the time.

By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was able to yank his tongue off the frozen pole.

Police say ambulance personnel explained to the boy's mother how to care for his bleeding tongue.

The 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond, the hometown of author Jean Shepherd.

You know, when I was a kid, I did that. No one called an ambulance. It hurt, and I learned not to do it again.

As a first-time homebuyer with a self-employment business loss I have rather a large chunck of money coming from the IRS.

But I can't get it yet.

The final tax form on that new First-Time-Homebuyer tax credit won't be released until 1/21 or so, so I can't file until that form is "official".

Boo hiss!

This credit plus my refunds will allow me to pretty much retire all my recdit card debt. I'll have to pay the givt back at $500/year starting in 2 years, for the next 15. But there will be no interest charged, and some of this debt I've been carrying for ages. My only monthly payments will be my mortgage, my assessments, and my utilities (whatever my electric turns out to be, $10 for phone and $17 for internet). I might actually be in a position to start some retirement savings!

But right now I have to wait. *taps foot impatiently*
