Apr. 29th, 2009 06:19 pmMy office internet connection has been down since yesterday afternoon, so if I'm not online it's just because of that. It flickered on and off for about 20 minutes areound 1:00 yesterday and then was fine until just after 3:00. It flickered a few more times and then by 3:10 is was completely out. With that pattern, and the fact that we're reset everything in-house that we can at least twice, I'm thinking someone poked or bumped something they shouldn't have and something came loose. All the tech in the worls can't replace a disconnected wire.
It's incredibly frustrating to discover how dependant I am on having online access. I actually had to call COMB to get someone's phone number! (Our contacts database is stored on the Exchange server). I have been checking COMB's and my office e-mail from home, pdf-ing everything onto a thumb drive and then printing it out at work. I had to share documents with an in-house consultant today by using the same drive, because I couldn't e-mail it to him. I don't know our FedEx account number because I'm used to it coming up on the login screen. It's actually pretty amusing to realize how many things I simply can't get done without net access - look up zip codes and phone numbers, send documents, etc. Bleh! They are sending a tech tomorrow sometime between 12 and 5.
We have 9 confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Chicago. Three are on the north side of the city, and one is a 12 year old girl in my neighborhood whose school is 3 blocks away and it's been closed for 2 days. Oh - and said school was helping run the kids programs at the Earth Day event that I worked over the weekend. And by the way, I have a substandard immune system and a high risk of seconday infections. And I have a sore throat and a headache? Just what I need. Not panicked, not worried, more annoyed than anything else - this would be JUST what I needed. I'lll keep an eye on my temp (bought a new thermometer on the way home) and go to bed early tonight just in case. So don't panic.
