That whale lost in the Thames died today.
It beached itself, and despite the best efforts of rescuers it didn't make it.
Waaah.

In other news, I dropped off the hamster supplies at the Red Door shelter today. I stayed for a bit to visit with the bunnies that were there and to chat with volunteers. My favorite was a hyooooge lop by the name of Zeus, and we visited for a bit before the cat hair drove me outside. He's a big lazy lump of bunny with a grumpy-old-man lop face.

I was actually sniffly on the way home, and it wasn't the allergies. I think it was because I'm closing a door of sorts. No more hamsters. I've had one at a time more or less since 1998. Snowball, Squeaks, Mallory, Pumpkin, Bistro, and Renfield. It's sort of sad to think that there will be no little nibbly noises for me. (little tear drips)

:( I weep for the poor whale.
But I love bunnies!

Sorry about your hamster woes.

I've wanted a bunny for years now - ever since I played with a bunch of California Whites (aka 'big white marshmallow bunnies') at OKRF and was delighted to find that I'm not allergic to them! But I needed to get into a better financial and landlord situation first.

I've been lurking on alt.pets.rabbits and [livejournal.com profile] bunnyowners to learn lots, and I have a copy of 'Rabbits for Dummies'. Sometime after I pass my new job's probation period in early March but no later than soon after I move (my lease is up in Sept and i want to move closer to work), I'll pick out a laid-back older shelter-bun to come home with me.

Babies are cute but with the fact that I'm not home all day plus the fact that cute little bunbuns are easier to find adoptive homes for, I think that an older one would be best for me. The shelter would be able to tell me more about it's personality and habits, so I'd have a little better idea of what to expect.

I plan a cube-condo for when I'm not home and gating off part of my living room for play space when I am around. Free-roaming would be nice, but combine the sewing which leaves pins and things about and my general slobby tendencies and I'd rather not risk it.

I have a cunning plan - I just need more time and cash to set it in motion...

A friend of mine has a little brown bunny that is now hutched in the cold, so can't come in the house until it warms up. But, when he is in the house, he chases all the cats around until they all jump up onto higher furniture.

A woman on one of my bunny newsgroups has a rabbit and 2 cats. They all play together. One of the cats is afraid of thunderstorms, and will hide under the table with the bunny for comfort. I think that's hilarious. "Protect me, oh mighty herbivore!"

This huge french lop I met at the shelter was just back from a foster - his potential girlfriend, about half his size, was beating up on him. He really is a big wimp

Yep, poor whale :( Seems that when they do things like that, they're intending to die. If I would've become a marine biologist (one of those dream jobs for me) I'd want to research why marine mammals beach themselves. Is it that the mammal part of them wants to die on land?
(ya know, sometimes the things I wonder about worry me!)

And yes, an older bun that needs you will be perfect for you!
