Based on a discussion I had at faire last week,

Yeah well... at that point I wasn't even a twinkle... now look at me i'm a full fledged brat. Though I like-wise have terrible costuming, mine was deliberate... Wendy were you there for the Katherine Gallow year?

Oooh - forgot to mention. That's panne velvet, and it has a zipper in the back. Because that's what the pattern said to do. ;)

At home I have the photo of the NEXT year's effort - a cotton calico (stripes AND flowers) unboned bodice made from the Folkwear Dirndl pattern. worn over a rayon gauze dress nicked from the HS costume shop. It had a regular shirt collar, 3 gathered tiers, and was trimmed with rickrack.

The next year(last before I left for college) featured a tiered calico skirt, a short-sleeved gauze blouse, and a black bustier. I was soooo cool, you know. The photo shows me lounging in the Queen's throne (while she was at the joust) flanked by two guy friends with wall-hanger swords. One was wearing a leather vest & headband, shorts, and lace-up boots. The other was a skinny "barbarian" in black plastic-rimmed glasses and a rather unfortunate-looking fake fur one-shoulder tunic straight out of the Flintstones.

*giggles*

This was winter 1993 - an "Irish" dress made of something from the $1/yd table, trimmed with leftover ribbon from a friend's wedding.

This makes me ever so thankful that I don't have a piccy of my in my peach striped cotton kirtle with matching waist-cinch.

Of course, having known the Wendy-Lady for so long - she may have piccys I don't even know about!

Somewhere, there's a picture of my first costume, which was a green jerkin (that I made!), knee-socks, a pair of altered black sweatpants, and an old "jefferson" shirt (linen, wood-buttons, collarless) that my dad used to own.

I'm going to find it eventually.

That's awesome. At least it's gender appropriate. This is my first Ren faire in garb.

The shirt and vest were my brothers. Pants were normal, everyday pants and my shoes had zippers on them. And they had some unfortunate paint splotches. But you couldn't see them. My brother, though, he made the chain mail, at least. Bad shoes. Next year I am totally going to go to Ren Faires and get my own garb. Women's, even.
