Saw info for a new faire in MI on the Wenches Board and dropped off an e-mail to find out where to send a demo. They sent a performer application.

As part of the application, they want a $200 security deposit! Umm - no...

They say they will return it after the 2nd weekend of the show, and that it is to basically insure that people show up. Ummm - still no.

I sent off a reply stating that in more than 20 years of doing this no one had EVER asked me for a deposit, and that we can provide ample evidence of our professionalism. I asked if this was intended to apply to all performers, and requested a reply.

Sounds like a really odd way of doing business.

i think in this case "security deposit" = "we needz a bankroll to cover our expenses...which we'll make back from gate, FOR SURZ!!!"

If they intend to keep it I'll tell them to keep our contact info on file for when they regain their senses.
