"Steward position available at Red Door Animal ShelterShare

"No kill animal shelter located in the northside of Chicago is seeking to hire a full time Animal Steward. An Animal Steward has responsibility for the day-to-day care of the shelter animals and cleaning of the shelter. Given that we are a small organization with limited resources, we expect all Animal Stewards to be courteous, helpful, and respectful to fellow staff, volunteers, visitors, Shelter Manager and Board of Directors.
The position is 35-40 hours a week, (some weekend days required), pay is $8.00/hr, with full benefits after 90 days."

May be close to minimum wage but includes all the kittys and bunnies (and the occasional chicken) you can snorgle!

Sure - I got it from the HouseRabbit society Facebook page.

I do some volunteer work for Red Door, as it's where Pepper came from. They are mostly cats and bunnies with the occasional other random critter (we had a show chicken last summer!) They have dogs but most of them are in foster homes.

I've looked at their website. I'm jealous of their fundrasing skills.

It's the bunny people! There aren't a lot of shelters that even take bunnies, and bunny people are used to everyone thinking we're nuts.

Are they insistent on their "no kill" policy with regard to the chicken? I'm afraid that my definition of "snorgle" as it relates to chickens involves 11 herbs and spices... ;)

Someone actually found some kind of weird show-chicken (pouffy-headed and bright red/green accents) loose on the street in Chicago last year and it ended up at the Red Door Shelter. Eventually they found someone up in Wisconsin with a farm who took it in.

A couple of years ago there was some kind of domestic duck in there for a while - it crapped all over EVERYTHING!
