not arrested
Nov. 15th, 2008 05:07 pmI did not get arrested (and I even made a cop laugh as I looked at all the officers and said "what do you think we're going to do - throw glitter at people?"
I'm tired and I'm cold, and have some mixed feelings about some of the things that were said - there were still some speakers framing things in terms of "us vs the straights" which bothered me, but there were others who made a point of thanking those who were standing there as their allies.
My arms are tired from holding up my sign, and my throat is sore from yelling. But I'm glad I went - the snarky sign got lots of pics and I did a couple of interviews for various gay-targeted websites (one in particular I cracked up when the interviewer abruptly realized mid-interview that I was straight and had to visibly switch mental gears). Since I got there early I was close to the front so my sign may be visible in crowd shots on the news. I also have no idea how many people were there because I couldn't see anything over the heads and signs. I know there were counter -protesters, but I never saw them and only vaguely heard them.
We marched around for a while, and I was far enough back that I never did find out what the route was, so I sort of followed people around for a while waving my sign and then after a while we passed the red line station so I handed someone my sign and went home.
